The Saints of 1848

Something I try to remember when I make hard choices is that Satan puts up the biggest fight when we're about to do something really good.  This aspect of the pioneer story that Elder Duncan used really resonated with me- the saints finally reached the "right place" and immediately Satan was at it again, creating doubt and fear of the harsh winter and poor soil and even tempting the saints with gold in California.  How often does that happen to us? I know I'm in the right place, but.....that gold over there in that other place sure looks nice.....and it's not so cold....or deserty.... After making a decision, especially ones that lead us to really good things like missions or covenants, etc we have to anticipate Satan's full on attack so we can prepare to stand strong and not question our righteous choice.

  1. maggie i love this. you're so right. when things are just about to be awesome, satan swoops in. that little jerk.

something that really stuck out to me from the other talk that fits with this is:
"Freedom and light have never been easy to attain or maintain."
Its not going to be easy to get, or keep. but its possible.

we have a promise it's possible:
"be optimistic. I believe that light and truth will be preserved in our time."

    how:
"Follow the living prophet and the First Presidency and be blessed; reject them and suffer.”

how much more clear can it get?
