Reflections on a Consecrated Life

To me this talk was like the ultimate explanation, motivation, kick in the pants… I was reminded what our LIVES are supposed to look like. "Life"is everything that we are, know, do… And everything that we are, know and do is what our Heavenly Father asks us to consecrate. Why? I loved that he started with a description of how wonderful…how joyful, a consecrated life is….

‘Men are that they might have joy’—a joy that includes a fullness of life, a life dedicated to service, to love and harmony in the home, and the fruits of honest toil

Lists are my favorite… and there are always a bajillion excellent ones at conference…

I would like to consider with you five of the elements of a consecrated life: purity, work, respect for one’s physical body, service, and integrity.

By work we sustain and enrich life. It enables us to survive the disappointments and tragedies of the mortal experience. Hard-earned achievement brings a sense of self-worth.

…This was so powerful for me, I have a testimony that work is one of the purest forms of healing and building. It can take us from broken, to living, to empowered, to empowering others. If we are to consecrate, we are to give… and so we must be constantly working to create , lest we find ourselves empty when we or another is in need.

May we consecrate ourselves as sons and daughters of God, “that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope”
